The kennel is 6' tall, and James put the latch almost 5' off the ground. Apparently that isn't enough, though. James looks out the window and sees Moya on the porch trying to get into the house. Belle, however, had more ambitious goals for her "unrestricted play" time. I walked out to the paved road, checking on the neighbor dogs since Belle really likes to make friends, but she was nowhere to be seen. At Holt-Lamplight I turned around and started back. If she'd gone that far then there wasn't really any where specific to look -- maybe get the car and drive up and down calling. She's new to this area, but she's doubtless pretty cagey about finding her way home if she wants to. About 50 yards back towards home I hear some noise behind me and there is Belle running after me. She just wanted to explore, not leave. Not a safe habit, but one I understand is common with the northern breeds -- they live to go. The faster the better.

As I came back I met Deanna and James who were both beating the bushes closer to home looking for our wandering Belle.

Exciting morning. Going to have to put a lock on the gate which requires thumbs to operate. And maybe barb wire at the top of it.Jim (of the wild ride variety)noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-58947494234858722.post-5971008710294270242009-08-07T20:06:30.146-05:002009-08-07T20:06:30.146-05:00And the one who has something against purebred dog...And the one who has something against purebred dogs isn't me. :)Jim (of the wild ride variety)noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-58947494234858722.post-25992096500760485992009-08-07T19:51:52.775-05:002009-08-07T19:51:52.775-05:00Belle is territorial and is trying to overmark eve...Belle is territorial and is trying to overmark every other doggy type scent she finds. I caught her today about to mark in James's room, and barked her name at her. Oh, she was crushed. Right to my side, ears back, sat down, licking my hand and waiting for me to tell her it was okay. I think this is going to work.Jim (of the wild ride variety)noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-58947494234858722.post-88803472331193498002009-08-07T14:08:42.195-05:002009-08-07T14:08:42.195-05:00I agree about Belle. The shelter personnel told us both that the owner tried dropping her off after hours, and was evidently so distraught at giving up his dog that they didn't have the heart to charge him the drop-off fee. I hope there's some way he can find out that Belle was adopted.Deannahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12300956524484014671noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-58947494234858722.post-66541825128037000522009-08-07T13:45:11.390-05:002009-08-07T13:45:11.390-05:00I think Belle was really loved in her previous hom...I think Belle was really loved in her previous home.
